History
The Peter Sparling Dance Company, founded in 1993, is Michigan's
premiere contemporary dance company. PSDC is a non-profit organization
dedicated to the advancement of contemporary dance through both performance
and education. The company is funded in part by the Michigan Council for
Arts and Cultural Affairs.
Peter Sparling
The artistic director of PSDC, Mr. Sparling is recognized
internationally as a modern dance classicist, principal dancer with Martha
Graham, master teacher and prolific choreographer. Under Sparling's
leadership, the company has established an impressive and stylistically
diverse repertory featuring works by Sparling and guest choreographers.
PSDC Members
The seven member troupe of professional dancers excel in a
variety of dance styles such as modern, ballet, and jazz, and have
extensive national and international performance experience.
Offerings
Performances, lecture demonstrations for all ages, residencies,
educational programs and master classes in modern technique. Special
individually tailored programs invite community performance and/or
collaboration.
Repertory
The Peter Sparling Dance Company presents audiences with
original, exciting contemporary works which have broad appeal. The
repertory ranges from lyrical pieces danced to classical works such as
Gluck's "Orfeo and Euridice" or Copin's "Nocturnes" to more
contemporary works such as "Pennissula" and "Possible Dances" that
incorporate newly commissioned scores, text and video.
Technical Requirements
Theater, hall or auditorium, well heated/cooled, lighted, clean and in
good order. Stage and backstage area easily accessible and free of
obstacles. Stage curtains, a cyclorama backdrop, and a clean, sprung floor
with marley covering are required. Lighting: full stage lights adaptable to
light plot. Sound: theater sound system equipped with cassette and CD
player.

Year-round.
Fee Range
Performance $5000 - $8000 excluding travel and accommodation
expenses. Please contact us directly for workshop and residency
fees. Because PSDC is listed on the Michigan Touring Arts Roster and the
Heartlands Fund Artist Roster,presenting organizations are eligible to
apply for grants to help subsidize costs.
